Live Advent Calendar on Christmas | Germany

Live Christmas Advent Calendar in Minden, Germany – Dec, 23, 2014 from Ray Pasnen on Vimeo.

Here in Minden, Germany, they hold a Christmas Market every year in December.  There is a market in the center of town and they set up kiddie rides, bars and food and candy stands.  People are welcome to hang out all day and drink and eat and be merry for the holiday season.

At one end of the market (near Baeckerstrasse) is an old German home that they have converted to a “Living Advent Calendar.”  Here is a video of the house with a nice large crowded bar and some musicians playing Christmas music in one of the windows.

What is a live advent calendar?

An Advent calendar is a special calendar used to count or celebrate the days in anticipation of Christmas. Since the date of the first Sunday of Advent varies, falling between November 27 and December 3 inclusive, the Advent calendar usually begins on December 1, although many include the previous few days that are part of the season. The Advent calendar was first used by German Lutherans in the 19th and 20th centuries but is now ubiquitous among adherents of many Christian denominations. Many Advent calendars take the form of a large rectangular card with “windows”, of which there are usually 24: one for each day of December leading up to Christmas Eve. The windows are opened starting with the first one. Often, these windows have a Bible verse and prayer printed on them, which Christian families incorporate as part of their daily Advent devotions. Consecutive doors are opened every day leading up to Christmas. The calendar windows open to reveal an image, poem, a portion of a story (such as the story of the Nativity of Jesus) or a small gift, such as a toy or a chocolate item. Advent calendars range in theme, from sports to technology, often carrying Scripture verses.

Disabled Gulf War Vet Walks Again Unassisted

If you are in need of inspiration today, watch this video.
He was a disabled US Army Veteran. They told him he would never walk unassisted again. He gained a lot of weight and used crutches. He was a paratrooper in the Gulf War and just did too many jumps. His back and knees were toast.
He approached many trainers and yoga instructors and all turned him down, except one. He worked with this yoga instructor, lost 140 pounds and can now run. Unassisted.
Thank you for the post, Emily.

Arthur’s story is highlighted from the beginning, in the upcoming documentary, INSPIRED: The Movie.
(Thanks to filmmaker Steve Yu for putting this inspirational video together!)

Arthur Boorman was a disabled veteran of the Gulf War for 15 years, and was told by his doctors that he would never be able to walk on his own, ever again.

He stumbled upon an article about Diamond Dallas Page doing Yoga and decided to give it a try — he couldn’t do traditional, higher impact exercise, so he tried DDP YOGA and sent an email to Dallas telling him his story.

Dallas was so moved by his story, he began emailing and speaking on the phone with Arthur throughout his journey – he encouraged Arthur to keep going and to believe that anything was possible. Even though doctors told him walking would never happen, Arthur was persistent. He fell many times, but kept going.

Arthur was getting stronger rapidly, and he was losing weight at an incredible rate! Because of DDP’s specialized workout, he gained tremendous balance and flexibility — which gave him hope that maybe someday, he’d be able to walk again.

His story is proof, that we cannot place limits on what we are capable of doing, because we often do not know our own potential. Niether Arthur, nor Dallas knew what he would go on to accomplish, but this video speaks for itself. In less than a year, Arthur completely transformed his life. If only he had known what he was capable of, 15 years earlier.

Do not waste any time thinking you are stuck – you can take control over your life, and change it faster than you might think.

Hopefully this story can inspire you to follow your dreams – whatever they may be.
Anything is Possible!
